RF Radiosurgery for Facial Veins
What is RF Radiosurgery for facial veins?
RF Radiosurgery uses radiofrequency (RF) energy, which passes into the skin to treat facial veins. A four-megahertz frequency is used, which is higher than the frequency for AM radios but lower than the frequency for televisions and lasers. Treatments can be performed to eliminate small purple and red veins on the face.
How does it work?
High-frequency RF is used to make very gentle, precise punctures. A thin micro-insulated wire is then inserted gently into the unwanted vein. Only the tissue cells immediately adjacent to the wire electrode are affected. The extremely fine, predictable punctures made by radiosurgery mean minimal or no scarring, quicker healing, and immediate improvement in your appearance.
How does RF Radiosurgery differ from other facial vein removal treatments?
Lasers and cautery are less delicate than RF Radiosurgery. They can cause excessive tissue burns, which lead to slower healing with more inflammation and redness. Sclerotherapy (injection of fluids to reduce the vein) is more complicated and unnecessary for thin, small veins.
Will I have to go to the hospital?
No, this is an outpatient procedure that is performed at our clinic in Nanaimo, British Columbia. The procedure only takes a few minutes. Topical anesthesia is often used. You will only feel a slight tingling sensation, and bleeding is minimal.
What are the benefits?
RF Radiosurgery provides consistent results with minimal to no bruising, swelling, scarring, or other complications. Plus, it is gentle and effective, and you will have minimal recovery time.
Since treatment only takes a few minutes, we will be able to examine you and perform the procedure during the same visit.
What do I need to do after the procedure?
You will need to wash the area a couple of times per day and apply a soothing gel or lotion with aloe. You can typically apply make-up after 24 hours. We will be able to provide you with additional instructions.
Am I a candidate?
Most people with fine facial veins looking for improvements in appearance are potential candidates. During your initial consultation, we will be able to determine if the treatments can help you.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments you will need depends on the number of veins present. Occasionally, a second visit may be needed.
